Travel to Quetzaltenango or Xela as is locally known, (also known by its Maya name, Xelajú). The surrounding department of Quetzaltenango, meaning “the place of the Quetzal bird” in the Nahua language has a variety of landscapes including volcanos (both active and inactive), hot springs, valleys, mountains, and rivers. The region provides a harvest of numerous products such as coffee, wheat, fruits and vegetables, as well as sheep and cattle breeding.
